Tango Workshops with Lois DonnayHere is a sampling of some of the workshops available: Passionate Tango Argentine Tango is about passion - the music, the compression, the interaction. There is a fire, an element, that is beyond dancing. If we don't understand this and find it, tango is just another ballroom dance. What we want instead is TRANSCENDENT DANCE. What is that? How do you get it? If you aren't getting the tango high, that "zen" experience where time melts away into intuitive music and movement, you need this workshop.
Connection How do you achieve connection with another person? We will explore how to deepen your tango connection so that it may be difficult to know where you start and your partner ends. We will bring in the music as an essential element. In this workshop we will be working on not just the physical, but the mental connection.
This is the precursor to the statuesque tango that most do today. It is enjoying a resurgence in popularity and transformation in the 21 st century. If you go to Buenos Aires, you will certainly have someone try to dance it with you - if you can you will instantly be the most popular dancer in the room! Learn how to dance this style of tango socially at the milongas amongst all those non-canyengueros. Canyengue 101 What is Canyengue? First we have to learn to recognize it - the music, that is. We want you to hear it so well, that you will delight at the opportunity to express the music in dance, and cringe at the people who are dancing salon tango when Canyengues are played. Then we will learn the unique embrace and fun ways to dance this music. Canyengue 102 Continue where 101 left off, learning more moves that you can use to dance to the Canyengues of Canaro, Tubatango, Punta y Taco, De Caro and some D'arienzo and Troilo. 5:00 – 6:30 Canyengue 103 Advanced, more challenging moves that you and your partner will love!
The Fundamentals of Tango Basic, fundamental concepts for tango dancing are discussed such as posture and embrace, balance, walking, navigation on the dance floor, and elegance. This is a workshop destined for all levels of dancers from beginners to advanced dancers who want to clean up and refresh their basics. Connection, the embrace, and all things that get you to that "Tango Moment"! Musicality: When you ask an Argentine about tango, they assume the music first, not the dance. More than any other dance, tango dancing is derived from the music, and the first thing followers discover when dancing in Buenos Aires is a deeper understanding of the music through dancing with the milongueros. Discover the rich world of tango music. Learn about the many varied orchestras throughout the ages and each unique point they all had. Learn about the structure of the music: rhythm, melody, beat, syncopation, instrumentation, etc. Learn the real musicality used for tango vals. Learn how to identify Canyengue and all the other forms of tango music, and how to be a better, more musical dancer. Then we'll put the moves we know in the right place in the music. Managing momentum in Turns: Tango is all about walking, but what you really do on the floor is turns. Great for floorcraft, great for musicality, and great fun! These are the moves follower's love, but only when done correctly. Want to book a workshop in your town? Call us at 612.822.8436 or Email Us!
